Okay so Carolyn has this Leapfrog magnet farmhouse thingy that plays four different songs (I think) with a banjo and we call the thing her toddler stereo because she'll go in the kitchen and start dancing to the music. Like normal, she typically drags one of us in there with her to dance, which is more like stomping and swinging her arms like crazy. Anyway, so on this occassion I snapped a few pictures before she noticed me but then she wouldn't stop looking at me so here's one of her pausing for her close-up. I think Evan kept going...must be the effects of dance, dance revolution on him. (thanks Jeremy!)

Too early for a realization this big
Wow, so it's early, far earlier than a 9 month pregnant woman should be up when her two year old is still sleeping. I know I should be relishing these moments on a pillow laying down but I got a weird bug this morning to do some internet searching-undistrubed. So Evan and I will be celebrating 5 years of marriage in a eight weeks (WOW!) and I thought let's see what the internet holds in terms of my name both married and maiden. It use to be lots of articles I wrote or was featured in would pop up under my maiden name because I use to be a journalist and an athlete (so stats and whatnot on the latter). Now, well let's just say, I wasn't going through some 1,100 pages to see if my maiden name hit on page 50something so I quit after 6 pages of searching. But on my married name, there was a modest amount. So after giving up my maiden name, which a certain professor of mine told me to NEVER do, now I'm wondering "Am I slowly being erased?!?" Not that I'm not totally head over heels about my husband (which I must say I can't believe that after 5 years I'm still absolutely crazy about him), but it is odd to think that any and all "accomplishments" I had before marriage are well hard to find. Don't take this like I'm measuring self-worth by google's hits on me. That is HARDLY the case. Just an odd thought that popped into my mind. To quote a favorite movie of mine, "Who knows where thoughts come from, they just appear." Now I have an urge to watch that movie today. LOL. Life!

She's TWO!

Oh My Gosh, my baby girl is now 2 years old. I can't believe it. We've survived two years of parenthood and soon we'll be adding a boy to the family. We had such a great time celebrating her birthday. Simple but sweet. Because I'm less than 15 days (apparently) from having another child, I took it easy and didn't make her a full blown cake. Boy was that a hard decision because I love making cakes...especially for my angel girl. Anyway, we did a cupcake station for her and her cousin Caleb and I have never laughed so hard. First the girl eats straight icing (can we say sugar high) and then she gets the idea to put it on the cupcakes and sprinkle a variety of colors on it but then only eats the sprinkles and icing and leaves the cupcake for daddy I guess or perhaps another round of decorating. It was too funny. Here are some pics to share her day with you all.

The ER
Carolyn's second birthday is coming up and last night we got the first trip to the ER over with her. A little scary but but I knew that God was with her. Evan was more freaked out because as he says, it was his responsibility to keep an eye on her but really she's a toddler now and independence is both an advantage and disadvantage. The story: We were spending the day at my grandparent's house in the back hills of Missouri. Quite beautiful. They have this dog and Carolyn loves dogs so she spent a lot of time playing with the dog and walking with her. As she was strolling through the house she basically got into my grandfather's pill box (he's on a chemical cocktail everyday, twice a day) and 9 various pills were missing by the time Evan got to her. Our first reaction, look for the pills on the floor or in something because she loves to transfer things. Next, call Poison Control (the little yuck man faces have a voice) and they said to take her to the hospital after reading them the 9 that were missing. Only one was really a big concern because it's a beta blocker and at her age, it could have dropped her blood pressure down too low. Well anyway, the nearest hospital was an hour away so needless to say Evan was doing like 95 on the highway and between 70 and 80 on the back roads. It was fun, 9 months pregnant, flying down curvy roads, not only praying over Carolyn but the life I have growing inside me. I would never have imagined that Evan could push on the gas that much LOL.
Anyway, so we get to the hospital and Carolyn gets put into a trauma room where they put her in this cute little baby gown and stick electrodes on her and bring coloring pages and crayons to keep her occupied while they monitored her. She HATED the blood pressure cuff and any doctor that walked in the room but was totally fine with the nurses. I was thinking, man, I should have brough my camera, what a great scrapbooking page with all these wires and cute little gown. I know it sounds crazy to be thinking that, but mother's instinct said she would be fine. She was acting totally normal and saying Hi to just about everyone (not the doctor). She was a trooper. She wasn't showing any signs after like 4 hours so we went home. There was a dog in the room so who knows at this point if the dog got to the pills first. Anyway, it was an hour drive here and we're here for like 20 minutes and she starts vomiting everywhere. It took us an hour and half to clean up what she did in five minutes. I think every surface in the bathroom got covered. It was sick. And then thankfully we had slipcovers on the couch so I just took that off and washed it up. It was insane. Then she snuggled with me all night and daddy took the couch because let's face it, I'm too big now to deal with two other people in a queen size bed and it was his fault. LOL. But today she's feeling great and no worries...except the bill.

Old but still needs posting
well here we are...two moms ready any time now to deliver. Amanda is due on the 23rd of March and I'm technically due on the 17th of April but they might induce me two weeks early because this little guy is growing something fierce and no 14 pound child is coming out of me! Looking at the pic now, we both seem so small in comparison to today. This was taken in late January at her baby shower.

We're in
Well it was a long time in coming but we're officially moved in. Still boxes fill the garage but we're working on them. Carolyn loves the new room which is painted pink and green and she's adapting well to the toddler bed. We're already baking in the kitchen for daddy. latest prego update is another ultrasound on Friday to see how this guy is developing because the docs think he'll have to be induced he's measuring a bit big (like 4 weeks bigger than he should be). NO 14 POUND CHILD COMING FROM THIS BODY! Otherwise, life is good but we miss our friends.

Settling in
Wow so Carolyn is doing soooo good with this unsettled lifestyle we've got going on. I mean we're looking for a place to live but she's doing great at Grandpa's so far. Toys to play with, hugs for grandpa every time she sees him (he loves that) and helping mommy make dinner (the big daily highlight). She sees family a lot which is a big change for her and us but she's adjusting well to it and giving hugs and kisses. She's learned to say thank you and ask for more (usually cookies but Miriam would understand how great those are but BETH wouldn't!!) (Not bitter!!) LOL. So anyway, we're narrowing our house search so hopefully soon our stuff will be out of storage and life will get settled before well Jonathan's born...AHHHH seems too close. Well until next time.

we're moving
Okay so figure I should post something about us moving on Saturday morning since I haven't told too many but I'm sure word has spread by now. Yep we're moving to St. Louis where my family. I probably won't be blogging for a while until we get computer service set-up or if I do I won't be adding pics until we find a place to live. We will be living with my dad until we find a place but I can't imagine it will be that long as we are on a bit of a time crunch before this baby is born. It was nice meeting some of you and hopefully we'll stay in contact. If nothing else, the family will be back up here for Amanda's shower on January 28th. Until then or when I hear from you soon. jessica

Evan's big experiment
Sunday, December 03, 2006

Oh my...my sweet daughter. She's getting so big and I think she's actually looking forward to a baby brother. Mommy's little shadow recently wanted to be a big girl and put on some light eyeshadow...so cute. There's a pic of her eating out of the VERY same bowls that my dad use to eat out of when he was her age. Crazy!!! And finally a pic of my latest cake (a dummy of what Amanda's might look like in a few weeks...ahhh). Well anyway, that's my sweet daughter...growing up WAY too fast.

Our newest addition

Well Jonathan Michael will be joining our family sometime around April 17th. His heart chambers look great, blood flow is strong and fluid is emptying from his kidneys and liver on a regular basis. Amazing that they can see all of that nowadays. So that's the update...it's a boy and he will carry on the Zelkovich legacy and therefore named after his great-grandfather and father.

Life with Carolyn

Life has been busy with Carolyn lately. Let's see, besides funny moments with messy CJ and her cleaning up the house by dusting, she's had her first haircut (bangs only), dressed up as a cheerleader for Halloween, and picked out her first pumpkin (a soggy excuse but she loved it so we bought it.) Definately been keeping us hopping.

The heartbeat
Well on Thursday we heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time. It was too early for my first appointment so we had to wait till the 12 week appointment. It was a strong heartbeat but the baby moved a lot so the doctor was having a problem keeping it on the doppler. Carolyn's reaction was less than impressive. I guess I shouldn't have expected a "Wow mommy that's the baby" moment but I was. I mean she's 18 months and kiss my tummy already but I'm not sure she's kissing the tummy because she knows there is a baby inside or it's mommy's tummy. I'm leaning toward the latter. Regardless she had a look of concern watching me lay on the table to hear the heartbeat...so at least she's protective. Just a quick update.

The Joys of Motherhood

I LOVE being a Mom! And who wouldn't with a sweetheart child like mine. I get paid in hugs which is soooo much better than money. I still think the college degree was worth it especially because mine was in communication but an emphasis in child communication might have been good. Carolyn's now starting to really talk but her words aren't pronounced the best. She says "cuse" for "excuse" after she burps, sneezes, coughs or ahhmmm. (Well trained) And she says "leaze" for "Please". So cute. And she always says something after we pray but it doesn't sound like Amen so we're still working on that one. But a nice code of deciphering would have been nice. Regardless I'll take her dozen hugs a day and the occassional kiss to make all the deciphering well worth it. So big yet so small.

Happy Birthday
Camera Down so no images...sorry folks. But no worries new one just arrived today so when I get new pictures...so the wait will be over for you. Patience is a virtue right??? So well just sitting here munching on some elk jerky (stuff from Evan's parents-they find the wierd stuff)...anyway...yummy!! A little spicy but good. Life lately, hum, well Carolyn started Mother Goose reading half hour on Monday and not sure if she understands why someone other than me is reading to her or why I'm singing (maybe thinking God Why is mommy trying to sing, can you tell her to stick to reading??). But today she clapped her hands when we started singing If your happy and you know it (I told her to clap but she did...yeah). So I'll take it as she likes it.
Evan is hanging in there with the thoughts of expanding our family and finding his groove with the Park Chapel Youth group. He loves it and that's sooo refreshing.
I'm not nearly as sick as I was with Carolyn's pregnancy but still no real piece of cake. This weekend we went down to Texas to celebrate Evan's Dad's 60th. We had a fun time down there at the Dallas World Aquarium and eating out with the family. Carolyn was a chatter box so everyone got a big kick out of her. So Happy birthday to him. And also, this week is my cousin's birthday...happy Birthday Erin!
Well that's the update. Done with the elk jerky...need water...so I'm out.

Adventures

The Ocean is so vast and Carolyn got her first experience with it this past week. Whether it was digging in the sand or splashing in the water, she always had to have me right at her side. The last few weeks have completely changed me. We've been going to a new church and feel like we click there. Our family is finally serving again in the Kingdom of God and it feels so rejuvinating. I started thinking about it. At CFC it wasn't like we weren't getting fed but I feel like our cups were full and without giving anything away it was just making our cups run over. The waters within weren't feeling the difference anymore with receiving because we were always full so we needed a chance to give away so we could fill up and feel the difference in our hearts. We've always felt God close to us during the past months but we need to see that water moving again. So now we're on a new adventure again and Carolyn is meeting more people and we're seeing the waves. We won't forget or lose touch with those who want to continue a relationship with us but we are eager to see the waves get bigger and bigger. And just like Carolyn...we're so excited to have God leading us and we'll stick right by His side.

A new year
Well so I suppose with turning 26 now Evan and I are making some serious decisions lately and one of which is leaving CFC to join another church. We've been looking at other churches for a while because God just felt like He was calling us somewhere else. It was a hard decision because Carolyn is so comfortable there but maybe too comfortable. So we're making the announcement in the morning and seeing what God has in store for us at another church. We're already feeling very connected to another church and Evan's even serving in their youth group (we've both felt called to serve for years with teens and we have at many churches but never really got involved at CFC) It might have been the transition to parenthood that made us a little leary because teenagers might think they are all independent but they really are needy (which is great but we were feeling already stretched thin with a new baby girl). So regardless this is it. We still plan being a part of the CFC family just at more of a distance right now. We trust God will continue to move at CFC and no matter what we're all part of the kingdom on a mission to tell every last soul about the one true Savior. Peace out. Jess, Evan, Carolyn and mystery baby (which I think is a boy).

Untitled

Hey there webworld. Just thought that I'd post something since it has been awhile. Life in the Zelkovich home is good. We've been in prayer about a few things and when God gives us a clear direction we'll share but until then. Oh the pic is of me and my twin at the Soul 2 Soul concert in St. Louis on the 14th of July.

The kiddos

Well after about 10 days of family, Carolyn and I just got back from the airport dropping off our last visitor (at least until Friday). Evan's family was in for a surprise birthday party for Grandma Zelkovich who turned 80 on Thursday. We had such a wonderful time visiting and Carolyn cheeseballing for everyone. But now the attentioned spoiled child will have a dose of reality until Friday when her grandpa Filippi comes up for a visitor. Well here's a pic of my two favorite nephews Caleb (the eldest) and Joshua. Of course Carolyn is featured too. I love these kids and my family. Enjoy!

Quiet
Well the house is quiet and everyone is sleeping, well my twin and the kids at least. Evan's out golfing with my brother-in-law...something I wish he did more often. Recently Evan posed a good question to me that was brought up in his discussion group with some men. Do the wolves in sheep clothing talked about in the Bible, know that they are in fact wolves? Interesting. I think that the answer can go either way depending on the situation. I sometimes feel like I am in disguise in this world only because hardly anyone really knows the inside of me. I open up to people with time much like my husband but it takes situations like a game of golf to get Evan to open up and sometimes share his goofy side (which that man can be crazy in the right crowd) and for me, I don't know. Right now I'm spending the weekend in St. Louis and for the first time YEARS my sister and I will be having a girls night out which I am very much looking forward too. While we talk, it will be nice to get to know her better and likewise it will be nice sharing new things about me with her. But right now with the peace and quiet surrounding me...I'll ponder...I am ever a wolf that scares off people or just another scared sheep trying to blend in. I know a bit off from the Bibical message but the characters are still the same. Lol.

kitchen help

My world can sometimes be chaotic between cakes for people, teaching classes and raising a daughter all the while maintaining a happy home. With 6 teeth coming in, shots last Friday and a new found sense of self, my little angel baby is a challenge but yet there are (and I'm sure always will be) shining moments in each day. Whether she's helping in the kitchen or we're playing a game of hide and seek, she always wants to be like mommy. Sort of odd for me because I've never had someone trying to be like me before but it's cute in that, you're my little girl way. She's getting good at hide and seek though. She knows where I hide most of the time and it's so cute to peek out and see her trying to pick up the covers off our bed thinking I'm sure that I'm under the covers yet again or checking the kitchen because well mommy's always in the kitchen. But she knows and she remembers where to find me. I could jump to a transition here about something more personal but I'm stopping because I don't want to say something I'll regret. Opening up on a blog about the stuff inside me doesn't really interest me. I'm more of a face-to-face communicator. So this site will be about the cuteness of my girl and cakes whether I start adding some how to pictures or what...I don't know. Guess I'll have to keep the evolution of this blog free to become whatever it is born to do.

Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July. What a great day in our history. I know that my mother-in-law is at home in Houston pouting because today is the day she remembers the USA beating her beloved England but regardless it's a great day here. I am very patriotic. In rememberance of today...I made a cookie bouquet that I thought I'd share. Happy 4th of July America!

My feet hurt but my heart feels GREAT!
Wow Marty and Andy are slave drivers in disquise as kind, loving people who just want to help cook at a small Christian camp...Beware!! For the last two weeks, Carolyn and I helped out in the kitchen. During the teen camp this final week, we got the brillant idea to actually do a camp cake for the final dessert. Gee that was a lot more work than I thought but it turned out really cute and some of the girls came over and helped out too. It was nice that some had some pastry bag experience but others didn't and it was fun to show them how to do stuff and do a cake that they were all very proud of. One gal said this experience makes her want to be a cake decorator. Awww...how sweet. Well the cake turned out to be super moist and it looked fun with lots of edible items and the girls even wanted to do shark fins...those poor rabbits, teddy grahams and red hot lady bugs!! The cake took about three hours outside of baking so it wasn't too bad. Overall, I had a great time serving and feeling useful with Carolyn nearby but boy did my feet hurt this morning when I woke up. LOL.

Well here is Carolyn...helping...she just got to play with people and this last week Mr. Marty and her bonded)

old pics

Okay so I was clicking through some old photos to get printed and I happened across these beauties of my darling little girl. She's been such a fun kid to have around...we really got blessed. The first ones are of Carolyn eating smoke after helping daddy build a fire while we were on vacation in amish country Berlin, Ohio over Memorial day weekend. Then she got the joy of playing in the rain, then there is daddy and his swim baby. Well that's all for today. Enjoy!

Graduations

Well tis the season for graduations. Let's see at church there have been about a gizillion and a half from both high school and college and in Moms club there have been quite a few too. Crazy Crazy! Well speaking of crazy, on my friends threw a huge party today for her baby girl's graduation from high school and she wanted something as equally as special to commemorate it. So I created this topsy turvey cake with all her favorite colors and even little chocolate monkeys to make her smile. There were also some truffles but no pics of them because it's only chocolate with the school colors drizzled over top. No great big feat there. Well thought I'd share this crazy cake with you. Enjoy and Congrats to all the grads.
Here's what the family said about the cake via email...
HATS OFF TO JESSICA My daughters graduation cake was AMAZING!!!

I highly recommend her to all.....I am so AWED at the talent I wish I had just a smidge of it...Jessica your great thanks for a great cake!!

It does exist!

So on our adventure to Ohio a few weekends past we discovered some place that was only eluded to in my childhood. How many of you out there in Internet land ever been told you needed to attend Charm School. Perhaps you tripped or didn't use your silverware correctly or even belched at the table but a parent said you needed to attend Charm School. Little did you know the place actually existed. Grant this Charm school is geared toward the elementary students there to learn math and spelling and such but it exist. Makes you wonder, do any of those students belch at their cafeteria tables and if so where do the teacher want to send them...humm... something to think about. I'm out.

Independence

We're both getting a lesson in independence this week. Evan's in Japan and soon after he left I had three flat tires within 24 hours. I wasn't stressing after the third one because it just became funny. Oh well all better now. I haven't been sleeping good because I miss my man in the house and Carolyn's the same way. She has had some really funny moments without daddy though. She does "talk" to him on the phone which he loves but while we spend time just she and I, I daily see her independence growing. The other day she pulled her clothes out of her closet for the next stage of her life (24 month clothing) and cleared out her dresser and put those in them. Too funny. Then she took my t-shirts out of my drawers and put them in the laundry basket and heaven forbid the basket is close to the washer because she'll transfer those to the washer too. LOL. Too funny. Well thought I would share. A few more days to go without Evan but us womenfolk are making it and finding our own independence in the process.
